Ghost Hunters Search for Mysterious Activity

Walking up to a haunted Jefferson apartment building to seek the very spirits known to haunt its residents stirs a unique blend of emotions in a person.

Tonight I would be joining a local group, the Fort Atkinson Wisconsin Paranormal Society (FAWPS), to do just that, something they were accustomed to on a weekly basis.  The group has been together since 1993, inspecting houses around the area and even traveling around the country in search of spirits. Although ghost hunting shows on television

Before going on this expedition, I was hazy as to where I stood on the idea of spirits or ghosts. Although I was not against the idea , I had never personally encountered one.

The crew, in charge of the technology, began the investigation by scanning every inch the apartment with Electromagnetic field (EMF) scanners. EMF’s exist and emit from TV’s, microwaves, stoves, power boxes, etc.
EMF’s are known to cause dizziness, paranoia, hallucinations, and even the feeling of being watched. According to these powerful little waves are all that remains of these lost souls.
In tonight’s case there were several indicators to the woman reporting the paranormal activity: she reported hearing a voice as she was trying to sleep, seeing electronics around the house going haywire, and watching her cat act out spontaneously in certain rooms of the house, and orbs containing face like images weer seen in photos taken around the house.
The spirit was identified by the woman living in the apartment as her step-father. He had attempted suicide 5 years previously by trying to crash a vehicle into a tree. His actions led to a family decision to pull the plug after he was diminished to a vegetative state.
According to the woman reporting the haunting, his actions in life consisted of sexually abusing the resident, physically abusing her brother and mother, and participating in other horrifying, unmentionable acts.
If the haunting was legitimate, apparently his abuse in his physical life wasn’t enough for him; he was back, only with a twist.
After the house was fully inspected and cameras, sensors, and voice recorders were strategically placed around the house, it was time for the first EVP session.
An EVP session is a recording session where paranormal experts try to capture the spirit speaking to them on recording.
Even as an innocent bystander I could tell this was more than just an odd hobby, or an interesting way to spend a Friday night for FAWPS members — it was much more than that. It was about past experiences.
Not only did the victim have spirits looming over her but she had horrific memories haunting her, too.
The mood was set as the well-lit apartment flicked to pitch black as we began the first EVP session.
I sat innocently, pretzel legged, staring intently at the small green light located in the center of the room, desperate for a flicker of activity. Carole Mack LeFave, the group’s founder and leader, began asking the questions
They were simple; What is your name? Did you have any children? Were you married?
Time passed.
Nothing.
According to the FAWPS this wasn’t all bad news.
It is believed that spirits often talk on frequencies that cannot be heard by the human ear.
Apparently, through the use of 3 voice recorders and special computer equipment, they can.
I was frozen. Partly because I was warned that the slightest noise I made had to be verbally identified to the group so as not to be confused as spiritual contact, and partly due to the silence hovering in the air that made way for my heightened anticipation to contact with another realm.
It felt like hours had passed when I finally heard, “This concludes our first EVP session.”

We repeated the EVP sessions two more times in different rooms of the house.

During the final EVP session the emotions came out. FAWPS as well as the home owner began hurling an onslaught of insults. The attacks specifically targeted her step fathers physical and sexual abuse years previous.

When the night was over we had little to show for paranormal activity. Even without solid evidence there was certainly a feeling that the spirit was sitting right there with us, playfully biting his tongue.  Whether this is based on reality or superstitions doesn’t matter. It is a reality to millions. It’s the reason they can’t sleep at night. FAWPS is helping local residents to sleep in peace at night, whether it be in spirit, or with spirit.
