Driving down the quiet, country road of Bray Road, near Elkhorn, motorists may catch a glimpse of something unsettling: The Beast of Bray Road.

The Beast of Bray Road is described to be a human-like creature with canine features. It was also described as having bright yellow eyes, shaggy brown fur and about five to seven feet tall. It is usually sighted near the towns of Delavan and Elkhorn in Wisconsin. While most of the eyewitnesses accounts point to a werewolf some have describe it as more of a Bigfoot, which is why most cryptozoologists, scientists who specialize in the study of mysterious animals, who have studied the case have concluded that it is as a Bigfoot. Some have tied reports of the Beast of Bray Road to earlier accounts of the “Bluff Monster” or the “Eddy.” The Native Americans of the area called the beast the “Bear-Wolf” or the “Indigenous Dogman.” It has been in the media regularly since the first sightings were reported in the late 1980’s. The legend was even turned in to a low-budget movie called The Beast of Bray Road and was directed by Leigh scott.

Wisconsin is no stranger to werewolf sightings. Reports of encounters go back to the 1936, when a night watchmen spotted what he thought was a dog digging in a Indian burial mound. He shined his flashlight on the animal and saw it was a large “wolf man.” The majority of sightings occur in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Many of these reports have come out of Elkhorn, starting in 1989. The first person to come forward with a werewolf sighting was Doristine Gipson of Elkhorn. Gipson was driving down Bray Road when she felt her right tire hit something. She got out to see what it was; she turned around and saw a dark, hairy wolf-like creature running toward her. She ran back to the car and started to drive away when the beast jumped onto her trunk and quickly fell off. She described the beast as a large wolf like animal with human-like arms and hands.

The Beast of Bray road is unique in the fact that there is no single type of person that catches a glimpse of the creature. It has been seen by local residents, and by people just passing through the area. The History Channel’s series, Monster Quest, aired an episode featuring the Beast of Bray Road.  Some of the witnesses were subjected to a polygraph test.  Results indicated that it was unlikely their stories had been made up.
