Due to the resigning of FAHS old coaches, there is a brand new coaching staff for basketball here at Fort High.
Before giving these new coaches the job they had to go through a interview, and were asked, ‘Do you believe seeding your varsity squad with younger class men or do you believe in seniority rules and waiting until it is your turn?’ and ‘Why are you the best candidate for this position?’. With these questions to be considered, coaches Mike Hintz and Scott Lastusky came up with best answers according the committee.
“We picked Mike Hintz because we believe he can rebuild our basketball program. Not only has he coached in Stoughton, but also was an assistant at UW-Stevens Point. We picked Mr. Lastusky for the same reasons, because he has has a lot of experience coaching from middle school. I believe he knows what he is doing. He has been very dedicated to Fort through the years,” Athletic Director Mark Pollex said.
Mike Hintz, the new Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach, seems to be ready to start this season off with a bang. Mr. Hintz coached three years in Stoughton, along with assistant varsity for UW-Stevens Point.
“We will be a good, united team, very determined for success, and playing intense at all times,” Coach Hintz said.
The few that have been able to see Hintz in action seem to be impressed.
“I think he is a good coach that will turn Fort’s basketball program around,” Junior Brady Sexton said.
Scott Lastusky, the new Girls’ Varsity Coach, also knows his share about basketball after coaching 11 years of it.
“I missed being away from coaching, though I had been broadcasting for the Fort radio station during the varsity girls games. I still wondered what it would be like to coach again. When this opportunity came I thought this was my chance to come back into it again,” Lastusky said.
Lastusky had UW-Whitewater Coach Pat Miller come in a help the girls with ball handling and shooting form this summer.
This years’ girls basketball not only got a new varsity coach, but also a new Varsity Assistant, Mike Hall, Junior Varsity Coach, Lance Riddell, and Freshman Coach, Greg Riddell.
“I think having new coaches will be a new and better experience,” Sophomore Marie Fitzgerald said.

Having Hintz as a PE teacher has seemed to be the problem, if anything. All he does is sit around and read basketball stats the whole class! There isn’t any education going on! If we need Hintz as a basketball coach, let him remain as such, without throwing in the teacher’s salary for his lazyness!
