Teachers from the Fort Education Association (FEA) helped out the Fort Food pantry over the summer by donating food items for every hour they work.
“I think everyone feels good about themselves when they help someone in need, and teachers are no exception.” FEA President, Randy Rasmussen said.
According to June Olson, Director of the Fort Food Pantry, the need for food donations and money to buy food for needy individuals and families is at an all-time high because of the economy.
In July 2008, 173 households received food from the food pantry. In August 2009, that number had grown to 268 households and included food for just fewer than 300 children in our community.
“Teachers work very hard at their jobs and may not have a lot of money to give, but we realize that times are very tough for many in our community, and we’ll do our best to pitch in however we can to help people in need.” Rasmussen said.
The FEA Food Pantry is an organization formed by the Fort Atkinson High School FEA staff in an effort to donate food to the Fort Food Pantry to give help to those in need.
The FEA Food Pantry was happy to present the district with about 2,400 items of food to go to Fort Atkinson’s local food pantry.
“Fort teachers recognize the Fort Food Pantry as a very valuable and needed community resource, especially in today’s economy,” Ramussen said.
Lately, FEA has a whole slate of activities they’ll be doing this year for the common good.
Currently, they are helping raise money for the public library improvement project, an effort to foster growth in the community through an addition to the library, which is short on space for all of their books..
Also, FEA is taking part in the “Koats for Kids” campaign, collecting coats and other winter clothing to provide to chlidren in need during the cold winter months coming up.
