When a popular business closes, loyal customers have no choice but to move on. Luckily for the fans of Capn’s Corner- which closed down in August- owner Randy Schopen decided to not give up the business, but to simply relocate.
The newly transferred Capn’s will be housed in the former Stockade Restaurant building. The name will be changed to Capn’s Steakhouse and Saloon.
With only slight differences in the staff, name and building site, Schopen is trying to keep the old charm and famous food the same as always.
Schopen is hopeful that finding the restaurant in Fort Atkinson will be easy as well for former and new patrons.
“I think the location for the new Capn’s is perfect because of the major road close by. That will hopefully bring people in. I think that if we continue to give good service and good food, people won’t care about the extra miles” Schopen said.
While Fort Atkinson currently hosts many restaurants, if a restaurant is thriving, it affects our daily lives. Dianne Hrobsky, the Executive Vice President of the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce remembers the old days when citizens complained about the lack of food.
“I’ve been living here for 21 years, and for a while people always asked why there was no places to eat. Now that we have restaurants, people still complain,” Hrobsky said. Hrobsky also added that when a town is known for restaurants, people come to find out for themselves.
Businesses in the area will soon be receiving a neighbor. Capn`s Steakhouse and Saloon restaurant has a goal to draw patrons that will not only enjoy their services, but that can also attract customers to the surrounding businesses. Matthew Wollet, an employee at Movie Gallery, located next to the new Capn’s Corner location, hopes that the new restaurant will compel customers that will stop in the store for a movie after a good meal.
“The only concern I have about the restaurant opening up will be that the customers will take my parking spot! Otherwise, it will be fine,”Wollet said.
Before Capn’s Steakhouse and Saloon can officially open for business, some minor sanitation and construction issues must be resolved. Capn’s is slated to open December 10th, and is open to any high school students that would like to apply for a job, Schopen is looking for employees who would help create a fair and fun environment that everyone could enjoy.
