Speaking in front of many people while being judged can be complicated for some.
Forensics is a club where students are able to speak different pieces of poetry, stories, and plays.
Forensics takes the public speaking opportunity as an advantage to help students with their speaking skills. Also, forensics helps students to become more effective public speakers.
“I really like performing in front of people. I used to do it in elementary school as well . I love being able to go up there and interpret my story to people,” Forensics President Becky McHenry said.
There are 15 different categories in forensics that members can choose from, depending on what one is interested in.
Speaking categories can be performed in many different ways. Some are read from a script and some are memorized.
Pieces can also be humerous or serious, depending on what one is interested in.
There are also other differences in ways which pieces are performed. Speeches, literature, and acting skits all fall under categories.
“Since there are a lot more people this year joining, I’m hoping we are going to be able to form a big, better, and stronger team,” Forensics Coach Jane Steiner said.
There are many new members who joined this year. New members have a chance to to pick the category in which they participate in.
Also, forensics holds practices inorder to better the team and gaurentee the team will do well in competitions.
“Practicing and focusing are a huge priority. You have to make sure you are comfortable in what you are doing and make sure you are doing the best to your ability but still have fun
with it. I think it is a great opportunity for young students who enjoy speaking or acting in front of people,” McHenry said.
